New U.S. Army Approved Contract Mount System

Description

Wilcox Industries designs some of the most sophisticated and user-centric night vision helmet mount systems available. The first reaction people tend to have is to balk at the price tag. Sure, it is expensive, but like everything: you get what you pay for. Wilcox helmet mounts are, literally, works of engineering art. They are designed with direct input from US Warfighters at the very tip of the sharp stick. These designs are refined until they reach perfection and are then masterfully crafted in Wilcox’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

The Wilcox L4 G19 Mount System is the new U.S. Army Approved contract mount for issued night vision goggles.  Designed to interface with the standard issue AN/PVS-14 J-Arm and AN/PVS-7B/D Horn, it raises the bar for stability, durability, and innovation.  The L4 G19 come includes a Wilcox L4 G11 Mount and Wilcox 1 Hole Shroud and offers more adjustments than the legacy Rhino Mount.  Warfighters now have the ability to adjust fore/aft, vertical, and tilt to ensure their goggle is correctly placed in front of their eye for optimal field of view and situational awareness.  Adjustments are done with the familiar Wilcox mechanisms found on their other mounts.    The L4 G19 is a drop-in NVG mount solution for U.S. Army 1-hole pattern MICH/ACH helmets.

Perhaps the biggest improvement over the legacy system is the elimination of wobble in the J-Arm to Mount interface.  Warfighters have developed ingenious methods to reduce the wobble in their goggle over the years.  But, these solutions are not elegant and achieve only moderate success.  Wilcox solved this problem with the development of mechanical tension adjustment.  After the J-Arm is inserted, a small Allen Key (included) is used to push a worm gear lever forward under the J-Arm’s horn.  This action forces the J-Arm upwards into the cradle, reducing or eliminating the wobble.  The system works incredibly well and feels as stable as a dovetail interface.

A tip for operating the tension adjustment: Take care to make small adjustments to the tension.  Over-tightening can cause the J-Arm to not release when the release button is pushed.  Over-tightening will also prevent the J-Arm from fully seating when inserted.

The G11 Mount uses a Force-to-Overcome mechanism for flipping the goggle up.  This was a requirement by the U.S. Army.  However, unlike the legacy Rhino Arm, the goggle is not flipped up over the helmet when stowed.  Instead, Wilcox retained the geometry of their other mounts so the goggle stays relatively vertical in the up position.  This eliminates the production of a glowing green circle downrange.  So, there is no Auto-Shutoff feature (nor is there a need for one).  The new stowage profile greatly reduces the Warfighter’s overlal profile, making it easier to negotiate tight spaces and dismount vehicles.

Also, as directed by the U.S. Army, there is no breakaway feature in the G11/ G19.  Available in Black Mount/ Tan Shroud only.  Please Note: The L4 G19 does not include a Wilcox Lanyard Module.  It is compatible with their lanyards, sold separately.
